By 1967, she was touring nationally with Any Wednesday and sharing the stage with notable actors such as Don Rickles and Ernest Borgnine in the beloved comedy The Odd Couple.
Her move to Hollywood in 1969 marked the beginning of an impressive television career. Guest appearances on popular shows like Hawaii Five-O, Gunsmoke, Mission: Impossible, and Mannix showcased her talent and versatility, preparing her for the defining role of her career.
Swit’s portrayal of Major Margaret Houlihan in MASH from 1972 to 1983 catapulted her to international fame. Over more than 270 episodes, she developed a character that was complex, strong, humorous, and compassionate. Her portrayal earned her critical acclaim, including two Emmy Awards in 1980 and 1982.
